ENDORSEMENTS

Steve Miller gets my highest commendation for writing a biblical, thorough, and fascinating book about the foreshadows-the current trends in our world today-that serve as early indicators of what prophetic Scripture says will occur in the end times. The eye-opening-sometimes stunning-evidence Miller provides makes this book a prophetic tour de force. It is unquestionably the most important prophecy book of the year.
Dr. Ron Rhodes , author of The End Times in Chronological Order

The rise of totalitarianism, global disruptions and resets, assaults on truth, intrusive surveillance, growing hostilities in the Middle East-what do these have in common? They are all foreshadows of the coming of Jesus Christ. This book helps us to interpret current events in the light of biblical prophecy, reminding us that whether the return of Christ is near or far, the stage is being set for His arrival. The curtain has been lifted, the drama has begun, and we await the King to walk onto the stage and wrap up the play. Are we ready?

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

T here are many unsung heroes who work hard behind the scenes at a publishing house. Though it is an author s name that appears on a book s cover, the credit for making a book become reality goes to every single person who helps a publishing company to operate. Every book s existence is made possible by a mind-boggling number of support staffers. At Harvest House Publishers, there are 50+ people working in unison to create books, which is a much, much bigger task than many people realize. With that, I pay tribute to the entire staff.
I want to specifically give thanks to Bob Hawkins and Sherrie Slopianka for the leadership they provide at Harvest House, and to Don Sage and Kari Duffy for their valuable and visionary roles in getting solidly biblical prophecy books and resources into people s hands everywhere.
Thanks also goes to managing editor Kim Moore for shepherding this book through the editorial and production processes, to editor Amber Holcomb for her exceptional attention to detail and suggestions for improvements, and to proofreaders Rosalie Krusemark, Cindi McMenamin, and Georgia Varozza for their work.
And it s with heartfelt gratitude that I acknowledge the wonderful support my wife, Becky, has given to me not only during the many months and long hours I worked on this book, but from the time God brought our lives together.
Finally, as Romans 11:33, 36 so perfectly says, Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

What Shadows Can Tell Us

S hadows are fascinating.
Though shadows are real, we cannot touch them. Though they are not tangible, they point to the presence of real objects all around us. The shadow cast by a tree alerts us to the presence of that tree. And though shadows are silent, they can inform us in remarkable ways.
Around 240 BC, the ancient Greek mathematician and geographer Eratosthenes used shadows-and a lack of them-to determine the size of planet Earth. For his calculations, he used the known distance (about 500 miles) between two cities in Egypt: Syene and Alexandria. Then he turned to shadows for the rest. In Syene was a famous well that, at noon on the day of the summer solstice, showed no shadows at the bottom because the well was perfectly aligned with the sun directly above. In Alexandria, also at noon on the summer solstice, Eratosthenes set an upright pole in the ground and measured the angle of its shadow. This experiment enabled him to arrive at a surprisingly accurate estimate of the circumference of the earth-without leaving Egypt and without the help of modern technology, such as aircraft or satellites.
For millennia, people have relied on shadows to tell time and determine the seasons. Among the first and most enduring timepieces were sundials, with the most important functional part being the shadow itself. So reliable were they that even after mechanical clocks were invented, sundials were still necessary to help ensure the accurate resetting of mechanical clocks when they wound down.
Let s fast-forward to the space age, where shadows continue to reveal valuable data. More than 50 years ago, NASA astronauts took part in six manned missions to the moon. With each visit, they left a variety of objects on the lunar landscape-descent modules, rovers, devices for conducting scientific experiments, cameras, flags, and more.
For decades afterward, it was not possible to spot these artifacts-not even with the powerful Hubble Space Telescope. That changed in 2009, when NASA launched the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). This orbiter flies a little more than 30 miles above the moon and takes high-resolution photographs that are used to make maps. As it circles the moon, the LRO has detected the locations of the various NASA landing sites by picking up the shadows cast by the objects resting on the moon s surface.
In these ways and more, shadows can be highly informative.
SHADOWS FROM THE FUTURE
There s a different kind of shadow we ll explore in this book-the shadows cast by future events. Consider a wedding. Once a date has been set, a lot of stage setting must take place before the ceremony itself. The venue must be reserved months in advance. Then there s the ongoing search for just the right garments, rings, flowers, cuisine, and of course, a cake. Invitations must be prepared and sent. In the final weeks before the big day, parties or showers are set up for the bride and groom. Then comes the highly anticipated rehearsal, with everyone s emotions nearing fever pitch. All these activities and events serve as foreshadows. As family members and friends participate in these many stages of preparation, they are reminded of the wedding day itself.
In a similar way, the many events that will take place during earth s final days are casting shadows that reach into our time. These shadows are important clues
