Description

There is more to the atonement then Christ's death on the cross, the symbology of the earthly sanctuary service reveals it in a powerful way.

Like so many other topics from the Bible, the subject of atonement is exceedingly broad.

However, you must study earthly sanctuary services, priestly ministry, Tabernacle furniture, sacrifices, and all of the shadows, types, and symbols that they represent if you want to understand God’s reconciliation plan for mankind.

In this book, Pastor Rod Thompson draws on his decades of studying Bible prophecy to explore how God plans on restoring harmony with the universe and Himself.

Part of the answer is Christ’s death on the cross. But God’s amazing atonement plan includes so much more than that. From the beginning of sin until the consummation of all things, God is working His plan of redemption, atonement, and reconciliation—and Jesus’s death on the cross is only one part of it.

Find out what atonement really means and embrace the full picture of salvation with the insights and lessons in God’s Amazing Atonement.

DEDICATION
I dedicate this book to the woman who prayed for me for thirty-five years, asking that I would give my heart to the Lord. She has prayed for me every day since then that I will stay connected to Him. I affectionately refer to her as Old Camel Knees—my mother.
PREFACE
In Psalm 119:37, David wrote, “Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way” (KJV). In Proverbs 25:2 Solomon wrote, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” (NKJV). In Matthew 13:44, Jesus says, “the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”
It is with these verses in mind that I embark on a journey of knowing the way of the Lord, searching out the matter, and in the process, discovering a pearl of great price. It is a journey that I feel compelled to share with others. My hope is that, by understanding the truths that are hidden in the word of God about the sanctuary, many will, perhaps for the first time, fall in love with the truth. Because when we do that, we fall in love with Jesus because He is the truth. I also desire that those who already love the truth will make a deeper commitment to Him because of the wisdom of God that is revealed in His word. And I am convinced, more than ever before, that people cannot think this stuff up. The Bible cannot be a book of humanity’s invention; rather, as Paul tells Timothy, it is all inspired by God. And therefore, it all must fit together like pieces of a puzzle.
INTRODUCTION
Many years ago, my wife and I went through an evangelistic Bible study series that changed our lives. My mother also attended the same Bible study series, and while it was easy for my wife and me to move from the nondenominational church that I was pastoring to the church described in Revelation 12:17, it was not easy for my mother. She struggled and cried. She was angry with her church because, in this Bible study series, she learned that many things that her church had been teaching were in direct contrast to what she was now learning from the Bible. She felt her church leaders had deceived her, and yet, at the same time, she didn’t want to leave that church. They were her spiritual family, and all her natural family (her brothers and sisters) were a part of that denomination as well. So, she pleaded with God, asking Him to show her what the truth was; after all, it couldn’t all be truth since one teaching contradicted another. And then one night, she dreamed she was standing in her living room looking out the large picture window that faced the road in front of her house. She saw a van pull into her driveway. A man got out of the van, opened the side door, grabbed a box, and walked up to her front door. To her shock and horror, the man didn’t even knock on the door; he just opened the door and walked right in and straight ahead to her kitchen. He dumped the contents of the box out onto her kitchen table, turned around without saying a word, went back through the door, closing it behind him, got back in the van, and drove away. She stood there thinking to herself, The nerve of some people! He didn’t even knock! But then curiosity got the best of her. She walked over to the table and saw that the stranger had dumped out a puzzle on her table. She loved to put puzzles together, so she started flipping over all the pieces. She put the border together and then started working on the interior pieces. She worked on it day after day, but she struggled to complete the image. After all, she had no way of knowing what the image would be because the stranger had not left the box or a picture to go by. But she kept working at it for a long period of time. And then one day, it dawned on her that not all the pieces that were there belonged to the puzzle that she was trying to put together. So, she started putting the pieces that did not belong to the picture puzzle aside. Eventually, she finished the puzzle. It was a picture of the face of Jesus. As soon as she finished the puzzle and saw the picture, she woke up from her dream.
She immediately thought to herself, This was no ordinary dream! And she asked God to reveal to her what the dream meant. The Lord immediately impressed upon her mind that she had been going to every single Bible study that she could find for her entire life. But not everything that she had heard and believed belonged to the picture of Jesus and the plan of salvation. And now it was time for her to set that error aside and apply to her life only the pieces that fit together perfectly and painted a true picture of the gospel message.
The same is true for you and me. We must study the word of God. When we discover that we have been believing in a lie, we must reject that error and follow the truth. You have heard it said that practice makes perfect. But I’m going to suggest to you that this is only a partial truth; therefore, it is error. A more accurate statement is perfect practice makes perfect. You know how I know this? Because I have been practicing golf for years, and I’m not any better at it now than I was when I started. So, if you want to understand the Bible, you must study with those who understand it more perfectly than anyone else. If you want to know who that is, read Revelation 12:17 and 19:10.
Jesus said, “When He, the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you” (John 16:13–14 NKJV). The truth just has a certain sound to it, and when it comes to the Bible, if it is rightly understood, it all fits together like pieces of a puzzle. The prophet Isaiah puts it this way: “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isaiah 8:20 NKJV).
We must give the devil a lot of credit. He is, after all, very clever. Dear friends, ask yourself this question: If you were the devil, how would you deceive God’s people? The answer is brilliant and yet very simple. You would mix error in with truth over thousands of years and, over the process of time, that error would eventually be taught as truth. So, by our time in history, there would be a lot of error mixed in with truth in the church. As a result, what is being taught as biblical is, in a lot of cases, paganism, spiritualism, and even Greek philosophy. No wonder there are so many different brands of Christianity today. No wonder many people don’t know what to believe. It’s almost to the point that people throw their hands up in the air and say, “We just can’t know the truth!” But, friends, I don’t believe that. Jesus said in John 8:32, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to move people off a faulty foundation once they have built their lives on error mixed with truth. The Apostle Paul addressed this issue with the church in Corinth in his first letter to them (1 Corinthians 3:12 NKJV): “Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the day will declare it, because it will be reveale
