Description

Our society is brimming with people suffering the effects of past abuse, rejection, physical illness, bad choices, and unhealthy relationships. Author and radio personality Norma Dearing has spent thousands of hours listening to and praying with those in need of emotional, physical, or spiritual healing. In The Healing Touch, she shares stories from countless people who have been set free from unhealthy relationships, unholy unions, addictions, generational influences, and physical illnesses associated with these. The Healing Touch is divided into three sections: Healing our Relationship with God, How to Have a Right Relationship with God, and Living within a Right Relationship with God. Packed with wise counsel, the book includes specific prayers for healing in the reader's own life and prayer for others in need. Dearing also covers rarely addressed problems such as healing from occult experience and pre-birth traumas, and explores the issue of why some people are not healed. This handbook is for counselors, lay leaders, pastors, and individuals who want to see people delivered from the unnatural ravages of hurt and sin. It is a powerful reminder that God longs for his people to be healthy and whole.

About the Author
A CKNOWLEDGMENTS
W riting this book was not easy for me. It was actually more painful than pregnancy and childbirth, since it took three times longer and I received no drugs. As a total extrovert, I would rather be speaking in front of ten thousand people than sitting alone behind a computer writing one page. When I felt God calling me to share my knowledge of the healing ministry in book form, I replied, “I could never do such a thing without grace and discipline sent straight from above!” His response: Yes, that’s what I had in mind. My first acknowledgment must be to the Lord for giving me the strength and discipline to complete such a daunting task.
There are so many others He used to encourage and help me with this project:
Grace Sarber, my Jacksonville editor, whose love, encouragement and eye for detail helped prepare a manuscript I was proud to offer for publication; Beth Hobby, who lovingly typed this manuscript, donating a brand-new computer to The Healing Touch in the process; my wonderful husband, Peter Dearing, who demonstrates the love and grace of Christ to me each and every day; Ann Bauwens, for her prayers, typing and computer skills, and belief that I “can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”; my parents, Reba Wade and the late Preston Wade, whose honesty and dependability taught me to expect the same from my heavenly Father; my children, David and Vicki Dearing, James and Mandy Matti, Shelley, Jason and Danny Dearing, as well as my adopted daughter, Katie Bauwens, for their unlimited encouragement and help with the computer at all hours of the day and night; my faithful prayer partners and intercessors, Sue Wilkinson, Barbara Newman, Betty Heindel, Audie Hall, Don Harvey, Joy Lamb, Edie Whitaker and Jane Wilson; David Busse and the Board of Trustees of Impact Communications Ministries who love and support me unconditionally; the prayer ministers at Christian Healing Ministries; the many people whose stories are represented in this book; Jane Campbell, editorial director of Chosen Books, whose personal encouragement and belief in this book made it a reality; and Ann Weinheimer, my editor, whose expertise and professionalism created the finished product. To each and every one of you, thank you. May God continue to bless you with extraordinary gifts and talents.
F OREWORD
N orma Dearing is a very gifted woman. For fourteen years she worked with us as director of prayer ministry at Christian Healing Ministries in Jacksonville, Florida, where she exercised several wonderful, God-given gifts. You will see these in evidence in this fine book.
In the first place, Norma is a gifted prayer minister who took a very real personal interest in the wounded people who came for prayer. For her it was not so much a task as a deeply felt mission. She has a big heart and concern for sinful, hurting humanity and that includes all of us, doesn’t it? Whenever anyone with a particularly difficult problem came to CHM, especially if he or she needed inner healing, Norma would be the person we wanted to take it on. Once she started praying with a person, she would loyally stay with them, often for years (see Cindy’s story at the end of this book). Consequently, Norma writes out of a wealth of practical experience. She does not propose easy answers or magical solutions, but offers solid teaching that leads to practical, realistic prayer for healing.
Norma began her involvement in the healing ministry more than twenty years ago by learning from her beloved father-in-law, the late Father Frank Dearing, a pioneer in the healing ministry as a pastor in the Episcopal Diocese of Florida. He learned to pray for the sick long before it was the accepted practice that it has now become. He never really retired because even when he was in his seventies and eighties, a stream of people kept coming to him for counsel and prayer in his home.
To what she learned from Father Frank and others, Norma has added what she has gained from her own experience. Since she has worked patiently for years with victims of deep wounding and sin, Norma makes practical suggestions in this book that you will not find in the books of healing evangelists who necessarily deal with large crowds and cannot spend much time talking and ministering one-on-one with individuals.
Since she has spent hours often years with her clients, she has learned how to pray with people who need layers of in-depth healing over a long period of time. Since Norma is approachable, hurting people open up to her, and these hundreds and thousands of clients give Norma a wealth of fascinating stories to illustrate her teaching, such as those you will find here.
Along with her loving gift for ministry, Norma possesses an enthusiastic ability to teach. She has a creative gift for making her teachings practical and down-to-earth, so that you will find in these pages many suggestions and prayers for all kinds of situations in which you may find yourself.
The Healing Touch will, I believe, be a valuable addition to anyone’s healing library, for several special reasons.
First, Norma incorporates topics that do not appear in most books on healing, but which are very important and belong to the healing ministry in the deepest sense. She writes chapters, for example, on healing our relationship with God, on salvation and on generational healing. These are special aspects of healing, often neglected but truly important.
Second, because of her wide experience of spending time praying with people with the deepest problems the kind not often addressed in large healing services or by praying for a short time after Sunday services in church she has written chapters that I personally found most helpful, such as how to pray with people suffering from sexual problems and being cut free from various ties.
I trust that you will find, as I did, The Healing Touch a most welcome and valuable addition to your library and that it will help you to grow closer to our Lord.

G OD ’ S P ERFECT P LAN FOR W HOLENESS
F rom the very beginning of time, God desired for us to be healthy physically, emotionally and spiritually. As an integral part of this perfect plan, God also established the idea of relationship with His created children. He wanted intimate and unbroken communion with each one of us individually that we might walk in the peace and protection of His will. And, of course, He wanted us to live in healthy relationships with one another.
He showed His inexpressible joy in our arrival by creating a beautiful world for us, one warmed by the sun in the day and guided by stars at night. He spoke into being plentiful waters to refresh us, land with vegetation for food, and animals that He allowed Adam to name. All of this He gave to us, and He gave us dominion over this world as well.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it.
