Reviews

"There is no other translation or commentary of the Holy Qur'an in the English Language to compete with Maulvi Muhammad Ali's Masterpiece."
– Al-Haj Hafiz Ghulam Sarwar, translator of the Holy Qur'an

"To deny the excellence of Maulvi Muhammad Ali's translation, the influence for good it has exercised and its proselytizing utility would be to deny the existence of the light of the sun."
– Maulana Abdul Majid Daryabadi, leader of Orthodox Muslim opinion in India)

...has all the merits of what is desired in a translation."
– The Anjuman Himayat-e-Islam, Lahore, Pakistan

"...By far the best text currently available in the English language...incontestably one of the finest interpretations of the scared scripture of Islam. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this translation to students and others seeking to understand the essence and epitome of the Quranic message."
– Prof. T. Hargery, Director, African Studies, Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville

"...an austerely faithful translation in English...based on a close study of commentaries of the Qur' an – the work of my learned name-sake Maulvi Muhammad Ali of Lahore...The translation and the notes...all demonstrate the labour of love and devoted zeal."
– Late Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar of "The Comrade"

"It is certainly a work of which any scholar might legitimately be proud."
– The Quest, London

E-Book Publisher’s Note
“And when the books are spread” (81:10)
It gives us great pleasure to present Maulana Muhammad Ali’s English Translation and Commentary of the Holy Quran in an e-book format. With the increasing popularity of e-readers, e-books have, by many accounts, become the preferred means to read literature. In order to continue to have the world-renowned literary treasures written by Maulana Muhammad Ali and other Lahore Ahmadiyya authors easily accessible to the general public, we have ventured to generate e-books of our standard publications.
This e-book of the English Translation and Commentary of the Holy Quran by Maulana Muhammad Ali is the first, and most worthy, result of this new venture. The original work of Maulana Muhammad Ali is presented. Forthcoming, God Willing, will be other popular publications such as, The Religion of Islam, The Manual of Hadith, Muhammad the Prophet, The Early Caliphate, The Teachings of Islam, Living Thoughts of Prophet Muhammad, and others.
We would like to thank our proof-readers within the USA and abroad for their assistance in this work. Special mention must be made of Abdoel Saied Hoeseni and Reza Ghafoerkhan , both of the Stichting Ahmadiyya Isha‘at-i-Islam (Lahore) in Holland , for their meticulous checking of the proofs of this e-book. May Almighty Allah bless and reward all who have contributed and sacrificed in this cause.
Due to limitations of the e-book format, it is not possible to include Arabic together with the English. Nor is it possible to use diacritical signs to indicate Arabic pronunciations. It is hoped that, as technology improves, it will become possible to include these essential elements in future editions.
