TO THE BODY OF JESUS CHRIST
Format And Purpose of the Book
The purpose of this book is to re-assure and comfort all believers in Christ Jesus and His Body that Jesus Christ is still here and to encourage them to live their lives in this confidence and profound truth. Selected provisions and practices are used as confirmation of His presence such as: -
(a) The Word of God – the entire word of God, inspired, infallible and inerrant as written in the Bible.
(b) The Holy Spirit – the third person of the trinity . His role as Jesus disclosed it to His disciples.
(c) The holy sacrament or communion - eating His Body and drinking His blood.
(d) The Great Commission – Jesus’ instruction to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; to teach them to observe all things He had taught .
(d) Receiving Him as Lord and saviour – whoever receives and believes in Him as Lord and saviour becomes a child of God and saved from sin and condemnation.
(e) Praying in His Name – Jesus’ provision for answered prayer
(f) A life of love – Jesus’ assurance to all who live a life of love of the habitation of Himself and that of His Father, as well as answered prayer.
(g) In prayer closets – Jesus’ teaching on prayer implies that He sees and rewards publicly those who pray behind closed doors. If He sees us and hears prayer then it means He is present in the very location of prayer.
(h) The affirmation by the Holy Spirit that believers are the sons of God - the Spirit cries Abba Father that we are the sons of God. It is the active presence of the Holy Spirit that can do this.
(i) As believers gather in His Name – the promise that where two or three gather in His Name, there He will be.
(j) I will never leave you nor forsake yo u: A promise by Jesus Christ that needs to be believed. He promised to be with us forever until the end of the age.
(k) The baptism in the Holy Ghost - the evidence of unprecedented power and boldness in those baptized as demonstrated by the Apostles and modern day believers.
(l) Speaking and praying in tongues and their interpretation - Speaking to God in an unknown tongue invokes the spiritual presence of God. This heavenly language when used in prayer, is understood by God and enables believers to communicate with God for their edification. However, tongues that are not personal prayer are meant to be interpreted for the edification of the church and the gift of interpretation makes this possible.
(m) Operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in believers and for ministry - These are the gifts of wisdom, knowledge, faith, prophesy, discernment, healings, miracles, tongues and their interpretation are bestowed on believers as God chooses, for their edification as well as those of His body. The active usage of these gifts demonstrates His presence.
(n) The blood of Jesus Christ speaks - continuous use of the blood implies His presence with us. His blood speaks deliverance, healing, restoration, forgiveness and many other benefits according to our faith.
(o) When believers live in unity, there He commands a blessing - He must be there to pronounce this blessing when Believers live in unity. He prayed that Believers should be one as He and the Father are one.
(p) Residence of the Holy Spirit in us – the new life of godliness is the evidence of His presence that bears the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, long- suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
(q) His presence when we gather in his name – Jesus promised to be in the midst of His Followers when they gather in His Name.
(r) When we read, meditate and believe His Word and are able to quote it in defence against the devil - The Word is Jesus on our lips; as often as we use it, He is with us.
(s) When we obey His word and do it - He is the one that gives us the will and ability to do that which pleases Him; doing His WILL is therefore a manifestation of His presence.
(t) When we witness in fulfilment of the Great commission - He promises to be with us until the end of the age when we obey this command.
(u) When He answers our prayers - answers to our prayers demonstrate that He is with us; He hears and answers; before we speak, He hears and whilst we are yet speaking, He answers!
(v) When He talks to us in times of waiting – There are several promises that confirm that when Believers seek to draw near to God He reciprocates.
(w ) In our daily walk as we listen to His gentle, quiet and still voice through diverse means such as dreams – listening to God manifests His presence.
(x ) Enacting His Grace in all spheres of life - Believers live on Grace, in Grace, by Grace and with Grace. They live and move and have their being in Jesus Christ who supplies the Grace.
(y) Continued good works - as evidence that Jesus lives in every believer as light of the world
(z) The continued use of created things in inventing things over the years by man - These inventions are made by Him, through Him and for Him.
Typical of the author’s writing style, the book has several portions of scripture to make it reading-friendly. As much as possible, readers may not have to search for their Bibles to look up a text or scripture references.
Prologue And Introduction
Now and again, I find myself asking my husband where are you? Or are you here? And the simple answer “I am here”, or at a particular location; in the office or in a different country comforts and assures me of safety. The presence of a loved one who cares really comforts and assures. The physical presence being most assuring.
As I write this prologue, I am dealing with a dilemma; my first handing-over situation as grandma. Who am I handing over to? Who can equally do that work with the intimacy and passion it deserves? Who is ready to love my daughter and extend that to her family; son and husband the way I did it?
How can I be away from them and still be there? How I wish I could still have oversight to ensure that my first grandson in particular was enjoying the same care under my hands? My able and trusted hands!
For the past one year, I had moved from my marital home which is about four hours’ drive away to join my daughter and husband to enable me support them go through an IVF process to have their first born. The process was undoubtedly lengthy, filled with many anxious but exciting moments.
The reason being that, it was an unprecedented experience for the extended family to undergo the IVF process... a new phase of our lives together as a family. We had only one trusted friend we could rely on and compare notes with in addition to documented experiences that were available for us to read for assurance.
I was the nurse on duty. And looking back, I think I did extremely well. I still recall my first attempt at injecting my own daughter. I can assure you,
