Description

Several authors have written books on intercessory prayer; Dr. Cindy Trimm is one of my favorites. However, my book addresses an intercessor’s character and spiritual posture.
Praying for others is a privilege granted to every Christian by God. However, interceding and standing in the gap in the presence of God pleading on behalf of the land, that God would not destroy it was an assignment in which no one qualified for in Ezekiel’s day (Ezekiel 22:30).
Can God count on you today? Are you available? Will you accept the call to be an intercessor? Can God trust you with the burden that comes with intercession?
If you answer yes to either of the above questions, now is the time to ascend as an intercessor. It is time to take your rightful position in the spiritual realm and stand in the gap, pleading to God on behalf of the land and the people so that God’s will is done on earth as in heaven.
As wickedness increases in the land and the spiritual climate descends, the clarion call is for intercessors to ascend. This book will help you understand the mandate to posture for the Kingdom's purpose.
The author answers questions asked about the call of an intercessor. Being an intercessor for over 20 years, she shares biblical insight, wisdom, and revelation into an intercessor’s mindset, ministry, missive, motivation, and much more to equip you for the assignment.

Prophetic Word To Intercessors

I dedicate this book to the many who have inquired about the ministry of an intercessor because they sense the call to intercession. May the knowledge and revelation shared in this book inspire you to pursue God and provide insight into this needed and often undervalued ministry position in the kingdom of God.

So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Therefore, I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads, says the Lord GOD .
—Ezekiel 22:30–31 (NKJV)

FOREWORD
We are called to minister and witness to a deeply distressed and troubled world. The Lord is calling us to be bread for the hungry, salt to the unsavory, water to the thirsty, and hope to the hopeless.
—Bishop Charles E. Blake Sr., 2014 Presiding bishop emeritus, Church of God in Christ Inc.
I am delighted to write this foreword not only because Evangelist Queen Esther Phillips has been a friend for over thirty-five years. I witnessed the late Dr. Allen Joseph Hines pray for her at the Garden of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ, Houston, Texas. He specifically spoke and prayed for her to have a ministry transcending the norm through intercessory prayer.
As the Church of God in Christ ecclesiastical endorser, Association for Clinical Pastoral Education certified educator, and pastoral care and education director at a major health-care institution, I witness daily individuals in spiritual distress. Spiritual distress is a disruption of meaning or purpose that affects one’s ability to integrate or transcend one’s spiritual, physical, and psychological self. The lack of understanding spirituality, brokenness, isolation, loneliness, or abandonment issues that emerge from one’s personal history, social distancing, quarantines, and faith community support requires the ministry of intercession.
Intercessors, Ascend! is a biblically based guidebook addressing the world’s ills. This book provides an in-depth understanding of the application of biblical narrative by using scripture as the foundation and sound theological interpretation. The author embraces the challenge of intercessory prayer by offering creative ideas and strategic approaches (i.e., “commissioned by God,” the importance of a personal relationship and prayer life with God, and “standing in the gap as an advocate”). Understanding one’s pastoral identity (“Who am I?”) as an intercessor calls for ordained clergy and laity to advocate or be a bridge between God and humanity.
This book is an essential resource for churches and individuals desiring to learn and grow in the intercessory prayer ministry. First, the book provides a biblical and theological foundation for practical application. Second, the Christocentric hermeneutic perspective is that Christ is at the center of ministry. Third, the spiritual making, strategy, and “essential ingredients” offer growth and guiding principles for ministry. This book should be read by anyone interested in intercessory ministry and used for individuals and groups for training and ministry.
—Chaplain Carlos R. Bell, MDiv., MA, ACPE certified educator
Church of God in Christ ecclesiastical endorser

PREFACE
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
—Ephesians 3:20–21 NKJV
The fictional introduction can be a genuine encounter for some individuals as they embark upon new life experiences. However, it may not be your personal experience. God deals with us individually. But you know you have an assignment that will open your heart to something new God is doing in your life.
As a little girl, I have vivid memories of my grandmother praying every day at noon. She prayed for her adult children and extended family members. She prayed for individuals and families in our small-town community. Many came to our house requesting prayer for their little ones. She was known as a prayer warrior. I did not understand then what was revealed to me after my conversion. As a little girl, I received an impartation simply by being in her presence and the prophetic atmosphere. I received her mantle! My maternal grandmother gave me the name Queen Esther before I was born. (There were no ultrasounds.)
The realization of the impartation and her mantle upon me was progressive. After submitting my life totally to Christ, my prayer life was intentional and consistent, and a level of fervency evolved as I sought the Lord wholeheartedly. Today, I am a witness that God will exceed all that we ask, think, or imagine. His mighty power works in us to change the trajectory of our lives as we yield to Him, say yes to His will, obey His Word, and pray without ceasing.
For example, on the road to Damascus, Saul was committed to fulfilling his “misunderstood” mission. He had a life-altering encounter that changed the trajectory of his life and his narrative forever. Everything about him changed, including his name—from Saul to Paul (ref. Acts 9:1–9). He later identified his call to serve the Lord Jesus as His apostle. He was in prison when he wrote a letter to the church at Ephesus. God had given him an assignment—the Gentiles. God sent him to share the good news of Jesus Christ, that God’s plan of salvation was for Jews and Gentiles. The Lord had revealed it to him during his time of preparation after his Damascus Road conversion. He had been in constant prayer for God’s people. The above verses 20–21 are the doxology/closing of his intercessory prayer for the Church of Jesus Christ.
Today, it reminds us of God’s mighty power that works through us to achieve whatever work He has assigned. Your experience may not have been a dramatic encounter, but know you are called to intercede on behalf of others. You know your assignment is an intercessor, but what now? God has given you an order and the supernatural power to ascend, but what does it entail, and how do you ascend, and why now?
This book answers these questions and provides biblical principles—insight on the characteristics of an intercessor. You will also gain knowledge of how to fulfill your divine assignment and understand the co
