Chapter 1 - INTRODUCTION
Life and death are in the power of the tongue

Books have brought great revolution, reformation, revelation and redemption to generations of people. Books are helpers of destiny and a good book is particularly so. A book may contain the insight you need to take you from where you are to your preferred destination. The difference between your life today and your life in the next few years will depend upon the decisions you make, the actions you take and the people you associate with personally or through reading their books.
Books are ladders for advancement to greatness. Books provide us with the information and inspiration we need to climb swiftly in order to reach our purpose in God. A good book will muster from within you an intense sharpness and perception that you never knew you possessed.
A book is a short cut to information and knowledge. The price tag for a good book is small compared to the potential for increase and change that book possesses. When you buy a book you are actually buying hours of research, meditation, study, contemplation, revelation and much more. In short you buy time, because you get information derived over several months or years in the few hours it takes to read that book. You also buy superior thinking, understanding and insight. You buy a portion of the life of the author produced in the form of words of a book.
Someone once said if you want to keep something from a fool hide it in a book. Even though he has money in his hand to purchase wisdom, he has no heart for it. Not reading is as bad as not being able to read, but there is something even worse - it is reading and not doing anything about what you have read. It is what you do with your discoveries from reading that will put you over and above in life.
Books change lives because books contain words and words are powerful. God chose to preserve and communicate his thoughts through a book. Surely the printing press must be one of the greatest blessing to modern civilisation. You can change your life and those of others in a relatively short time through the words contained in this book.
This book is about the power of the words you speak and how you can harness that power to chart the course of your life to your destination. In the next few pages you will find out that the words you speak are powerful, consequential and therefore must be used deliberately. As you read through this book your eyes will open to certain life changing truths, if you take hold of it and put it to use it will work for you.
A Christian cannot be effective without considering the words he/she speaks. In the faith walk, believing is important, but spoken words are just as crucial. (Mark 11:23). Faith must be in two places; in the heart and in the mouth (Romans 10:8, Deuteronomy 30:14).
While using a bible concordance to look up ‘words’, ‘tongue’, ‘lips’ ‘mouth’ ‘say’, ‘speak’ etc, I was amazed by the sheer mass of bible verses that deal with the issue of words. The bible has a lot to say about speaking words because the words we speak affect us immensely.
Proverbs 18:21, Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Psalm 34:12-13, What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he might see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
Faith is primarily activated by speaking words. Whatever God does, He does by faith and without faith it is impossible to please Him. Faith is the key to victorious living. Faith (or fear) is released and activated when words come out of our mouth. God did nothing without saying it first; the creation of the world was the product of His spoken words.
One of the most important things you can do in life is to keep your heart full of the word of God. This is because whatever is in your heart in abundance is what you will speak. Faith filled words are the most powerful things in the universe. Absolutely no situation can prevail against the power of God’s word spoken by a faith filled man or woman. I put it to you that you can literally write your own ticket in life if you will pay close attention to speak faith filled words.
In the first half of this book we will look at the nature and power of words, the tongue, God’s word and the principles behind the power of words. In the second half you will discover how you can harness the power of God’s word in your mouth to transform your life for good.
Chapter 2 - WORDS, WHAT ARE THEY?
Words are life’s building blocks

Political speeches, impassioned calls for revolution, commercial jingles etc. are all examples of the way words are used to influence and bring about change in the world today.
Words are wonderful, with tremendous power to produce reaction and emotion. Words are powerful, words paint pictures, words can make a difference between life and death. A few words spoken carelessly produce phenomenal damage. Never underestimate the power of words, particularly your own words. Your own words can make or break you because they have a more powerful effect on you in the long run than words spoken by others.
There is something mysterious or almost magical about words and how they work to bring about what is contained in them. It is not surprising that power should be attributed to God’s word, but this same power is attributed to the words of men, particularly to blessings and curses. Words possess, in Hebrew thought, the quality of a magic spell. A word once uttered takes on a life of its own beyond the control of the speaker and achieves its effect by some kind of innate power.
Some people think that words are not that important but if you consider Genesis 27:27-40 blessings were conveyed with words and they were irreversible. When Isaac was tricked into blessing Jacob instead of Esau he could not cancel the blessing, the words had been uttered and those words of blessing had gone ahead to bring and cause to come to pass the contents of that particular blessing (Genesis 27:32-38).
In the Old Testament Hebrew the translation for ‘word’ or ‘to speak’ is dabar, and in the New Testament Greek it is logos (or Rhema). In Hebrew culture a man’s word (dabar) was an extension of his being, just like God’s word was considered an extension of his person. The word “dabar” is also translated in many places in the Old Testament as ‘thing’, hence a synonym for word in the Old Testament is thing. This is interesting because our words take up substance and become things. In other words, it is our words that become the things in our lives.
Words are like eggs, once spoken they cannot be unspoken. When words are spoken a sequence of events are activated, a ripple effect begins. One can always repent of wrong speaking or contrary words but it is always better not to speak wrong in the first place. Sometimes great damage is done that is difficult to amend. Your words attract good towards you or evil so don’t speak the wrong words.
Proverbs 6:2, Thou art snared with the word of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth .

Words on errand
Isaiah 55:11, So shall my words be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it .
When we speak words we are sending them on errand and they always bring back the thing for which they are sent. On what kind of errand have you been sending your words? In the natural sphere when you communicate, your words go on an errand to inform the other person
