Description

This unique, well-researched analysis of mercy will provoke your thoughts and change your life. Feeling compassion is not enough; one should respond responsibly and accountably.
The book ‘Mercy Gone Wrong’ expresses that all men are equal in all aspects except in exposure and ability to utilize opportunities that only God supplies. Hence, we have no reason to boast about our spiritual and material attainment and acquisition. Rather, as recipients of God’s manifold mercies, we should eagerly show mercy to all men as we have the opportunity.
In an in dept scriptural analysis, the book discusses that God exhibits His mercy in all His dealings with man. We should, therefore, by God’s grace cultivate this special attribute, integrate it into our relationships, and view other people’s failures from the periscope of mercy.
The author explains how the practice of God’s kind of mercy can bring blessings to a man and his progeny, drawing testimonies from his life and others. The book illustrates how and how not to show mercy and the blessings that follow mercy givers. In addition, the book offers a guide to people with limited compassion or who lack the push to act on their compassion to improve and become good mercy givers.
In this era of economic recession, when men tend to be selfish and interested only in their own affairs, the book is a refreshing and motivating call for people to manifest abundant mercy while being watchful against the fraudulent practices of evil men. Mercy is a vital tool for spreading the gospel in a hurting world.

A TESTIMONIAL OF SHOW A LITTLE M ERCY
Mercy Gone Bad is another masterpiece from the desk of a prolific author, an adroit narrator, a didactic writer, and a diligent and versatile scholar, Prof. Jonah C. Agunw amba.
This work flows from a well -c oordinated mind and a very rich experience; from personal devotion, close observation, right interactions, and scholarly indulg ence.
The author really hit the bull’s eye with the subject of the book which can rightly serve not only as general Christian reading literature, but also as an academic text being much -t inged and interspersed with definitions and theological dialectics relevant and significant to the concept of mercy in our relationship with God Almighty, and with fellow men on the other hand.
Mercy as an attribute of God is proved by the author to be the pivot and hub around which God’s dealings with His people revolve. Consequently, Christians, as products and constant beneficiaries of God’s mercy, are called to be mercy -s howers and to do so with passion, sympathy, empathy, and consistency. However, and very importantly too, with caution as the Holy Spirit dir ects.

The author, Engr. Professor J.C. Agunwamba, has written this book Mercy Gone Bad which is worth reading by every Christian. From defining various perspectives of showing mercy, he has, with biblical references presented dimensions of God’s merciful attributes and His expectations from Christians (who are regenerated to bear His image), to show mercy. He also points out the benefits of showing mercy and highlights God’s expectation from us to pray conviction upon the sinners, strengthen the weak, encourage the fainthearted, and bear one another’s burdens. These expectations are, however, unattainable without genuine repentance from sin and a request for God’s touch in our hearts for the regeneration and salvation of our souls. He encourages the readers to attribute their successes, acquisitions, and attainments in life to God’s mercy and to boast, not in these, but in the fact that they know and obey God. Only in this way will they be rightly motivated to show mercy to others. The motives for showing mercy must be godly and total dependence on the leading of the Holy Spirit is inevitable (Galatians 5:16). Christians should be seen to be sources of the outflow of mercy, having received God’s mercies despite their failures and inadequacies (Romans 5:1,8; Psalm 103: 1 – 8). I strongly recommend this book to all believers who covet God’s mercies and desire to be sources of the outflow of mercy to ot hers.

In this classic volume, Agunwamba, J.C. PhD, provides insight into the subject of MERCY. This extraordinary, well -r esearched book will serve as a ready resource material for both leaders and the led in the church and outside the church on the basis and practicalities of MERCY. For a successful Christian race, the subject of MERCY defines the MAN. The call of God flourishes or dies with the ability to relate with others. God’s way and understanding MERCY are the KEYS. Read this book and avoid the curse associated with your inability to relate scripturally with others. MERCY IS A FORCE IN MO TION

AN IDEAL BOOK ON MERCY
Mercy is the epicenter and live-wire of every individual across the world today. Mercy, underserved compassion; relating to forgiveness or withholding punishment, is the essence of life.
Professor Agunwamba demonstrated in this book his in-depth knowledge and insight into the subject of mercy. He defined mercy from different perspectives. He describes mercy as diamond, all-embracing, all-encompassing, multi-faceted, and action-oriented. I personally love how he expressed God’s mercy as valuing relationships over rules.
The author explained mercy in a wonderful way that broadens the understanding of the reader about how much God loves us. God’s mercy, everything God is – His faithfulness, greatness, love, and what have you is tied to mercy. It is comprehensive. This book will be best described as a unique biblical textbook on mercy. It is expository; and must be read by every Christian and non-Christian, as it will, no doubt, enhance a good understanding of God’s unreserved love expressed by His infinite mercy towards all mankind. We are all expected to extend mercy to others.
This book by Professor Agunwamba is experimental and well-researched. It is inspirational and very important because mercy is cardinal to human life.
I highly, without reservation, recommend this book to anyone who wants to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually in this present confused and egocentric generation.

PREFACE
Several years ago, I was stranded at an International Airport because I had not enough money for my flight ticket. I went to conduct a doctorate External Examination and my plan was to return by road, but, I fell sick during the examination. I had two challenges: I was not paid the honorarium and secondly, I was so sick I could not possibly think of returning by road. I went to the airport only to be told that the fare to Enugu had increased by a certain big sum. I knew that if I managed to reach Enugu, I could hire an airport taxi to take me straight to Nsukka and when I reached home, I could pay the driver. Blame it on having too much confidence in our university system. Whatsoever, the truth of the matter was that I found myself begging at the airport. I approached the first person. He scowled at me from head to toe and stormed away. I approached the next. He did not as much as give me a listening ear. I thought in my heart. Is this what beggars endure? Certainly, it is more dignified to work and earn a living. I summoned courage and approached another man, a young man with a smiling face. He asked me how much I wanted. He completed the money. The man never knew me. We got connected. Later, the man lost his job and I was able to assist him. The man showed me kindness. Is kindness the same as mercy? What is the difference between the two? The scriptures instructs us to show mercy to other people. “Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.” It also enjoins us to be kind to others. I want to obtain mercy wherever I go. We live a life that does not depend on how strong, wealthy or influential we are. Sometimes, we can be in a very serious predicament that we need help from our fellow man. Our deliverance in such situations is dependent on th
