Foundation of Man and Woman Balance

I was born into a Christian home. Growing up, my most favorable memories we r e those times of Christ m as. From my Mom's Christmas co o kies to t h e wonde r ful Christmas music and cheer to the opening o f gifts with m y Dad and Mom and three brothers—my heart still beats w i th Christmas. But what is it about Christm a s? Might we ask, what is its spirit?
I menti o n t his because we a r e l i ving in a time when secularism is t a k ing over things. Instead of h earing “Merry Chris t mas,” we hear “Happy Holidays.” Instead of enj o ying a manger s ce ne of the baby Jesus, we now see the Atheist sign n e xt to it. Darwinian scien c e proclaims that life and the univer s e are nothing more t h an a c o smic accident. You get the idea. The r e is a ce r tain spirit being taken out of life to d ay. What is this spirit?
As I am writing this we, in Ame r ic a n, are going through a terrible fi na ncial cri s is. All the promises of the g o vernment ( and the FED) seem hollow. The stability of the system is in question. Culturally as well. What has the s e xual revo l utio n , with i t sex befo r e love attitude, its abortion and homosexuality, brought about? The whole basis/definition o f marria g e a nd family i s now in question. Whe r e does that lead? World over we a re under assault fr o m Islamic fana t icism. What is that all about? All of this feels to me like an assault upon the Christmas s p i rit.
What is this Christmas spirit t h at makes Christmas diffe r e nt? ( I would suggest it is this same s pirit that makes Ch r i s t iani t y diffe r e nt f rom other r eli g io n s.) In Chris t ian t e rms, we would say that it is the birth of our savior. I would like to suggest that it is the birth o f life that is the spirit, i.e., that the r e i s a holine s s to each a n d every life. Christ, for me, stands for the pure birth, not a birth tainted in sin but in salvation. As the Christian Saint Meister Eckhart (1260–1327) pointed out, “Every son is the only begott e n son.” We might want to add, “Every daughter is the only begotten dau g hter,” but Meis t e r Eck h art was o n the right track. Every birth is God expres s e d , if you will. When a mother holds her new b o rn babe in her arms, don't we see the spir i t of Christmas? Her baby is Jesus, too. Her baby is the most important b aby in the world, too.
There is a n other aspe c t to this i d ea of birth t h at is esse n tial to our understanding of Christmas. T his is th a t the birth of life is enco d ed as the o r der and process of life. In my comment about science proclaiming that life and the universe a r e n othing mo r e than a cosmic accident (not all scientists say this but some do), if this were true, that makes the birth of life nothing m o re than an accident. If life is an accident can we say that it is pure and holy (or primordial), that e very birth is t h e most special birth? Can we say that there is purpose in each life a n d that e v ery life has eternal meaning? I think not. But if birth is somehow incorporated into the n a ture of the univer s e i t self—wo w , now we have something.
This idea of the birth of life is c
