Preface

This book has been inspired by an inner desire to share my fascination and experiences with the exercise of prayer. I felt it rewarding to inspire the community of believers to remain constant in their prayers. God does answer His people. I did not review any prayer books to write this journey with prayer. However, the many books I have read on the subject have contributed to its inspired pages. Its development proved very challenging. God truly carried me through the preparation of its pages, and I must confess I am greatly overjoyed to see its completion.

As a young girl growing up in a Christian home, prayer was constant. Yet, as I look back I wonder if we were simply following a routine or whether we truly expected results. A lot of my wandering from God came about because I felt He did not always hear me. It appeared that my prayers went unheard and unanswered by Him. Now that I have matured in my spirituality, I see that God has answered every prayer I prayed, even the ones for which I am still awaiting answers. I find one such evidence of answered prayer in the strength I now possess as a person, a woman and a Christian. Throughout my early life I always felt fearful and fragile. I did not like these personality traits, but there seemed to be nothing I could do to change them. I prayed for change, but nothing seemed to happen. One day, someone said some very unkind things to me concerning my “laid back” and “passive attitude.” Having always been of a fearful and reserved nature, I felt immobilized and powerless to respond or to change who I was. After this criticism I recall pleading with God, begging Him to make me a stronger person. The more I prayed, however, the more unpleasant experiences seemed to hound my steps. I was certain God wasn't listening to a word I said to Him.

Today, my life has evolved into one of great strength through God’s reshaping. The trials and hardships I felt God ignored when I called on Him, appeared to be the very ones which led to my new found strength. These were the very hardships He used to empower me. I did not know it, but during those moments God was maturing me. Now I smile at the thought that God truly works in mysterious ways His wonders to perform. He may not come in the ways or at the times we anticipated, but He will come to our rescue. If you are praying and do not see the answer you seek, rest assured it is right there obscured possibly by finite human expectations. With wisdom and mercy the Father will manifest His answers as a result of our prayers. As I waited to become strong, I felt assured I would awake one morning from my sleep, only to discover I had miraculously been given a new mind and attitude. Unfortunately, it did not happen that way. God chose to answer my prayer in a way that introduced me to many life discomforts, as well as unimaginable blessings. Prayer works! Although at times not in the way one may imagine. God is wise and, if we trust Him, He will move on our behalf in remarkable ways. Call on Him in any necessity and He will answer with supernatural responses.
Introduction

The traditional concept of prayer continues to baffle many people, even Christians. Many outside denominations and religions have found it to be foolish, and have ridiculed the idea. It is true that it seems odd to kneel, stand, sit, lie down or walk while talking to an unseen being. Such behavior may be considered deranged, unstable or insane among others who do not practice prayer. Yet, prayer is exactly that: the opening of the heart to an invisible God in the same way one would to a friend. Those who have called on the invisible God in faith have attested that the unseen becomes visible when they pray. Although prayers may not always be answered in the ways, times or manner in which we expect; the answer will come. God hears every prayer, but it is one’s unwavering faith in Him that determines whether or not anything will be received from Him.

Faith remains the key component to having one’s prayers answered. It is exercised both consciously and unconsciously. For instance, a child may not have all the knowledge needed to access God, but if this child brings his sincere request to God, He too will find an answer. The same is true for an adult. Consequently, it is one’s belief which makes the difference in the responses received from God. Evidently, this belief determines whether or not our prayers will be answered. There are many people who believe in God, but they do not believe what God says. We must believe God is real and that He is not only able, but capable of answering every prayer and meeting our every need based on the promise of His word. During Christ’s ministry on earth, He always asked people about their belief when He was about to heal or perform miracles. After each healing He would always remind them that it was their faith that had made them well.

Faith is waiting in confidence or expectation for what has not been seen with the certainty that it will come. It is a firm belief that the anticipated desire will be fulfilled, although there may not yet be a trace of evidence on which to hang that belief. Everyone has faith, but it is simply not always placed in God. This book is about anchoring faith. It is about learning how to empower prayer to achieve the results expected from God. This study on prayer drives deep into the connection between prayer and faith. In addition, it challenges the believer to examine his or her spiritual lifestyle and shows how lifestyle impacts prayer results. We serve a God who is more than willing to grant our wishes. This journey through prayer helps discover the beauty of prayer and how essential it is for a victorious life.

There is an amazing phenomenon regarding believers and prayer. It has been revealed that many Christians confess to not having a sound prayer life. Admittedly, there was a time when my own prayer life lacked power and consistency. Looking back, however, I always in some way dialogued with God, even when it was just to air my frustrations concerning Him. Talking with God is an urgent human necessity. Our connection with Him will be feeble if we never talk to Him. A sincere relational bond with God will never be developed without constant communication. Prayer brings us to God and Him to us. Prayer elevates and gives us access to God that is otherwise impossible.

Countless questions exist today as to whether or not there is such a thing as answered prayer. Such occurrences are often presumed to be mere coincidences. In that case, there have been too many coincidences—in which private conversations with God have resulted in direct, open and specific responses—to simply dismiss answers to prayer as a matter of happenstance. There is no question in my mind that Someone listens to every single prayer we utter and then comes with a response to our needs. God doesn’t always come in the ways and times anticipated, but He does come and that’s all that matters. When we pray in faith, we can anticipate, with excitement, life’s impossibilities becoming great divine possibilities.
