Description

This book provides a thorough, biblical, compelling, and thought-provoking discourse on the gift of prophecy from Genesis to the Book of Revelation.
"When a gift is greater than the gift-giver, there is a problem, which is why we must promote the health and sanctity of the body of Christ while using the gifts bestowed on us by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit."
When a gift is greater than the gift-giver, there is a problem, which is why we must promote the health and sanctity of the body of Christ while using the gifts bestowed on us by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
In this book, Pastor D. Scott O’Neal explains how prophecy works in today’s church. Get answers to questions such as:
· What hints do we have that Jesus will return soon?
· How can we discover the validity and seriousness of the gift of prophecy?
· What is the function, purpose, and importance of prophecy in today’s church?
"The reality is that signs and wonders are happening around the world, as well as the working of miracles."
The reality is that signs and wonders are happening around the world, as well as the working of miracles. People are getting healed. We might argue or let our disbelief hold us hostage, but we need to acknowledge that we are in the timeframe of which Jesus says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father” (John 14:12).

To those who helped me throughout my academic career, mentors and university faculty members who helped shape my life through my walk with Jesus, my Redeemer—Dr. Frank H. Gawin, Dr. Charles Snow, Dr. Jack W. Hayford, Pastor Rick Booye—and those who are now with Jesus in heaven: Bishop John Stanley, Dr. Selwyn McCabe, Dr. Sam Middlebrook, Dr. Scott Bauer, Rev. Rex Broyles, and Sr. Pastor/Adjunct Professor John Wimber.
These wonderful soldiers of Christ were relentless in the pursuit of excellence in their walk with Jesus, and they inspired me to do the same in reaching the world for Jesus Christ.

PREFACE
I wrote this book to bring clarity and relevance to the gift of the prophetic and how we should use it appropriately within the context of Holy Scripture and in a safe, Bible-based atmosphere. This book is intended to help readers understand the gifts of the prophetic and how they are used in the church, in the believer, and even in all the nations. As well, it is intended to bring adherence to personal responsibility of the gift, knowing that prophecy is the Spirit of Jesus (Revelation 19:10). It is not fortune telling. It is not for personal empowerment but for the empowering of believers and of the church. I will go into greater detail in covering these subjects in this book. I will give examples to encourage and strengthen the church body and to ignite believers into being activated into the gifts of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Many of the spiritual gifts have gone off track because of a lack of knowledge regarding how they are to be used appropriately. The easiest way to measure competency of spiritual gifts is by using the only valid compass, which will verify if the gifts are being used appropriately or if the spiritual gifts are somehow falling flat in their presentation and delivery. That compass, which is always correct, is the Holy Bible and the witness of the Holy Spirit.
I move in the prophetic and am a senior pastor, professional counselor (PhD), and faith-based crisis counselor. It is fair to say that a great deal of good and bad has been observed regarding use of spiritual gifts. When they are of the Lord, there is perfect peace, perfect flow, and perfect truth that hits the listener. A resonance comes from the Lord affirming His presence, whether the gift is operating under His jurisdiction or not.
Many people have been led astray by prophecies that were not from Jesus. Today, many false miracles go forth from churches that bring glory to the church, to a movement, or to a person and not to Jesus. When a gift is greater than the gift-giver, there is a problem. Therefore, I feel it necessary to speak out on these issues for the health and sanctity of the body of Christ. Conversely, the members of the body of Christ need to step up to use the gifts bestowed on them by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I also will discuss this in the book.
You will see how prophecy works in real time in today’s church. You will see the amazing flow and synchronicity of the prophets and how the prophecies they gave, from the Old Testament to the New Testament, came to pass in miraculous ways; they could not have been faked or implemented through human strength. Only God can do that. The evidence will reflect this, and you will be amazed and reignited to live for Christ and His church.
May the Lord richly bless you and open your eyes to dimensions of heaven that you might have never seen before you gleaned from the scriptures and the prophecies in this book. It will give hints of Jesus’s return, as well as helping you to discover the validity and seriousness of the gift of prophecy—yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
First and foremost, I thank my wife, Sasha, for her scripture contributions and endless hours of proofreading, encouragement, and insight and for keeping me focused on finishing this book—to define and explain the gift of the prophetic in an uncompromising, Word-based endeavor.
Second, it has been my honor to have had wonderful mentors, so I thank those on earth—who are carrying on the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 in going to all the nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ—as well as those in heaven.
Those precious and anointed mentors who are now in heaven with Jesus are Bishop John Stanley, John Wimber, Dr. Selwyn McCabe, Dr. Scott Bauer, Dr. Sam Middlebrook, Dr. Jack Hamilton, Pastor Dave Owen, Rev. Rex Broyles, and Rev. Andrae Crouch. I give thanks to their relentless devotion to raising up saints in a time such as this. I was honored to have had these mentors in my life.
Also, my gratitude and thanks go to those mentors who are currently on earth, carrying on their ministries and vocations, and who have impacted my life, whether they are aware of it or not: Dr. Frank H. Gawin, MD; Dr. Jack W. Hayford; Pastor Duncan Filmore; Pastor Garris Elkins; Rev. Gerson Ribiero; Dr. Charles Snow of Oral Roberts University; and Rev. Sandra Crouch.
My favorite and best mentor of all time—and this may indeed sound religious—is Jesus, with too many glorious titles to list.
I am grateful beyond words for the fabulous and labor-intensive proofreading and editing done by Melodee Grace Smith.
A special thanks to Mrs. Marce Johnson, who encouraged me to write and complete this book and who has been another proofreader.
Others who have supported my ministry and who have been instrumental in expanding it over a long time include the following people:
Rev. David Castle, Rev. Valerie Jackson, Pastor Mark Hayford, Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Jan) Delia, Mr. and Mrs. Gerry (Denise) Pedrow, Kris O’Neal, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew (Jody) Radakovitz, Mr. and Mrs. Steve (Denise) Bair, Mrs. Kathy Brewer, Mrs. Robin Weathers, Ms. Carrie Langsam, Ms. Linda Lappek, Mr. Richard Davis, Mr. Mark Davis, Mr. Kelvin Williams, Mr. Anthony Huffman, Mrs. Cindi Bisso, Mrs. Melody Smith, Mrs. Jo Cornelius, Mrs. Margaret Hauptman, and Mr. Andrew Ford (aka Andy Naud). My appreciation for Pastor Dale Walker, Sr. Pastor of Heart for the World Church, the fellowship I receive from.
I’d also like to acknowledge former worship leaders: Dianna Anderson and two who have gone to be with the Lord, Karla Thibodeaux and Lynn Kellogg. Also with the Lord are Elder Honey Coatsworth and Jurgen Schoellkopf, who inspired me to plant churches.
Further, I want to acknowledge my children, Brendon, Brittany, Tony, and Jaime; and my sister, Bonnie, and brother, Tommy, for being supportive through the many years of my ministry; as well as my mother, Betty O’Neal, who is now with the Lord, who was instrumental in raising me up in Jesus.
