LAW BOOK 1
Genesis

Reading:
GENESIS 1
Passage: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Reflection:
Creation—it’s such a huge topic! But that’s how God started this earth. How excited and thrilled the Trinity must have been bringing light and life to something that was dark and dead.
God’s first words during creation were, “Let there be light.” The lights were created to bring light to others, to govern, and to separate. And as children of God, that’s also our role. While we live on this earth, we must let there be light in every aspect of our lives: our thoughts, words, and actions. For we know that God, our Father, is pure light. One day, when he replaces this earth with the new earth, there will be no need for the sun or moon. God himself will illuminate the earth with his glorious light as we live with him forever!

Reading:
GENESIS 2
Passage: “Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.”
Reflection:
This is a chapter of many firsts.
The first holy day of rest.
The first underground watering system, before God created rain.
The first human, a man formed by God from the dust.
The first warning from God; a violation would result in sin and death.
The first anesthesia.
The first operation performed by God himself.
The first woman created by God from man.
The first marriage between the man and the woman, his wife.
The man and woman were naked and felt no shame because they were sinless up to this point. It was like Heaven on earth at that time, pure and full of love, joy, and peace.

Reading:
GENESIS 3
Passage: “‘The serpent deceived me,’ she replied. ‘That’s why I ate it.’”
Reflection:
This is when sin entered the world. Satan deceived Eve and caused her to doubt what God said. After she saw the forbidden tree and its fruit, she wanted it. She took it. She ate it. Then Eve gave the fruit to her husband, and he ate it. Their eyes were opened. They felt shame and hid from God when he called for them.
However, God killed an animal and shed its blood to provide a covering for their nakedness and shame from their sin. This is a picture of the sacrifice that Jesus would later make for the sins of the world.
Since this original sin, all people are infected with sin. But Jesus shed his blood for us. If we will accept him as our Savior, we are covered forever.

Reading:
GENESIS 4
Passage: “The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift.”
Reflection:
Cain refused to do what God said was right, so the Lord did not accept him. People today think that they can do whatever they want and still be accepted by God. However, they are only saved by receiving the sacrifice of Jesus through faith. Thank God for the Bible where he clearly explains how we become his children.

Reading:
GENESIS 5
Passage: “Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died.”
Reflection:
With an average age of 846 years old, the lifespan of the people in Genesis 5 was about ten times as long as today’s average lifespan. They didn’t even start having children until they were sixty-five or older. They did not have lives of ease, comfort, and pleasure. Lamech named his son Noah, saying, “May he bring us relief from our work and the painful labor of farming this ground that the Lord cursed.”
Some people today would like to live 846 years or more on this earth. However, believers are blessed to have shorter lives so we can go to Heaven sooner and eternally live the truly good life with Jesus.

Reading:
GENESIS 6
Passage: “The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart.”
Reflection:
Do you ever think about God’s heart being broken? According to the Bible, it happens when God sees wickedness in our thoughts. It doesn’t even have to go as far as actions. It is what is in our hearts that breaks God’s heart.
Sin starts in the mind, thoughts, and heart. Sin separates us from God. For the unsaved, sin separates them from a relationship with God. For the saved, sin separates them from fellowship with God. Ask God to point out anything that offends him, confess the sin in your heart, and ask the Holy Spirit to fil
