Sample Book Insights:
#1 We want to be people of impact, and we like being productive. We are created to do good works, and we want to get to it. But the passage in John’s gospel where Jesus tells us to abide in him eleven times in just ten verses is meant for people who have time to be still.
#2 I needed help, and I turned to Warren Wiersbe, a Bible brainiac with a knack for putting the grass where the sheep can reach it. I read his book Be Transformed, which explained that to abide in Christ is to keep in fellowship with him so that his life can work in us and through us to produce fruit.
#3 When we come to Christ, we discover that he has already reached out to us. The love that saves us is the same love that keeps us attached. We don’t have to struggle or strive for connection; rest is a gift, and abiding is what equips our soul to receive it.
#4 When we choose to surrender to Jesus, the Holy Spirit enters our lives and turns our deepest thoughts toward God. His presence goes with us, and we can enjoy perfect peace while working.

#1

We want to be people of impact, and we like being productive. We are created to do good works, and we want to get to it. But the passage in John’s gospel where Jesus tells us to abide in him eleven times in just ten verses is meant for people who have time to be still.

#2

I needed help, and I turned to Warren Wiersbe, a Bible brainiac with a knack for putting the grass where the sheep can reach it. I read his book Be Transformed, which explained that to abide in Christ is to keep in fellowship with him so that his life can work in us and through us to produce fruit.

#3

When we come to Christ, we discover that he has already reached out to us. The love that saves us is the same love that keeps us attached. We don’t have to struggle or strive for connection; rest is a gift, and abiding is what equips our soul to receive it.

#4

When we choose to surrender to Jesus, the Holy Spirit enters our lives and turns our deepest thoughts toward God. His presence goes with us, and we can enjoy perfect peace while working.

#5

Prayer is not something we start and then stop. It is a continual flow. It is the vehicle God invented to allow us to communicate with him. When we take God up on his invitation and say yes to dwelling in Christ and letting him dwell in us, our prayer life changes.

#6

The Bible is like a storeroom in which we find treasure that is both new and familiar. Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray, and he focuses on how abiding in him and his words dwelling in us can impact how we pray.

#7

Prayer is not a one-way conversation in which we ask God for what we think will be good and then see what happens. Instead, it is a two-way conversation in which we ask God for what we want and receive his approval.

#8

We must be willing to do what God says, even when what he’s asking us to do doesn’t make sense. We don’t know the good thing God might have in store for us as we ground our prayers in his Word.

#9

When we pray with Scripture as our launching pad, we never run out of things to talk about. Our health, our friendships, our jobs, our families, and our finances are all covered in the pages of the Bible, and they are all important to God.

#10

When Jesus heard the cries of a blind man, he asked what the man wanted him to do for him. The man said he wanted to see, and Jesus gave him his sight.

#11

When we pray, we don’t always receive because our motives are wrong. We may think we’re being selfless when we pray for someone, but God knows what really drives us to do what we do.

#12

The Bible is a broad-based test. When we read God’s Word, and allow it to read us, we can discover what pleases God and what doesn’t. And the more we reflect on the Bible, the more our prayers will line up with God’s purposes.

#13

Praying the Scriptures is different from traditional prayer. Instead of just reading a few verses and reflecting on them, you are invited to read a few verses, reflect on how they intersect with your life, and then pray them back to God.

#14

It can be helpful to find a place that feels holy, where the distractions of daily life don’t seem to press in so easily. A place where the muscle memory in your spirit can speak to your brain and say, Shh.
