PREFACE
This handbook wasn’t written to be an exhaustive book on all Bible topics. It is meant to be a help for those who sincerely seek to understand basic Biblical precepts without all the scholarly language that tends to cloud true understanding. Too many highly educated scholars have turned the simplicity of the scriptures into complex theological arguments which tend to cloud and confuse rather than to enlighten the babes of Christ. It is my hope that the pages of this book can be easily understood by the most elementary disciples of the Word.
I am bound to receive criticism for writing little on certain topics, and perhaps over-emphasizing others. If certain topics seem to be over-emphasized, it is because the subject matter is not commonly understood by those seeking to understand the Bible. Not all the characters of the Bible are listed, but you will find that those who played the most prominent roles are. This book also contains words and terms not found in the Bible, but which are, nevertheless, frequently used by various denominations as if they were Biblical. There is a great need to have some of these terms explained in the light of truth.
A Christian’s first duty and obligation is to humbly follow Christ. To follow Him we need to learn all we can about Him and His teachings. We must follow God with all our heart, and do so with love, joy, and faith, or it is all in vain. It is my hope that this book will help all sincere truth seekers sift out the critical information, revelation, and wisdom contained in God’s Holy word, and to apply this wisdom and understanding in their own daily lives.
Beyond being a light in a dark world during this dispensation, the Christian layman is called to support those whom God has called and chosen to deliver His message to the world, and to support God’s church. Whether an individual is ordained to a special office and responsibility during this time is not the important issue. The time will come, soon enough, when all those who faithfully devote themselves to Christ and the Christian cause will be given far greater offices than any that man can be ordained into at the present time. Any who would receive such an office in God’s kingdom must spend a lifetime preparing for it.
Some may think that I claim to have written the “little book” described by John in the 10 th chapter of Revelation. I make no such claim. Having been warned not to hide what God has given me, I wish to share God’s revealed truth with all those who want to know more about the true religion of the Bible. Hopefully, in some small way this book will help prepare God’s people for Christ’s awesome second coming, but even before that, may it help prepare some for the prophesied coming of the end-time Elijah. To make a claim to have written the prophesied “little book” would be most presumptuous of me. If there is a “Little Book” of Revelation to be revealed, God will reveal it in His appointed time (see BOOK (Little) in this hand book).
My little book was not written for profit or financial gain. God’s principle is “freely ye have received, freely give” (Matt. 10:8). As the author of this handbook, I have no doubt made mistakes and drawn some wrong conclusions. No man has perfect understanding of all the scriptures. Hopefully I can correct any errors that may have found their way into the book. I welcome any and all corrections and constructive criticisms. While I may not answer all of them, I will attempt to read and consider them all, and if need be, make corrections in future printings of this book.
Moses Hochstetler

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb. 4:12)
