Description

One in a series, this spirituality book offers a thorough understanding of Christianity by exploring the life Christ lived as written in the gospels.
Jesus didn’t just come down from heaven to die for us, but also to show us how to live in this present world. His life is the inspiration from which we draw the instructions for daily living as Christians. When we are confused and in doubt about what to do in certain situations, we get wisdom from the words of his teachings. When false teachings, philosophies, and ideologies mislead us, the faith in the power of his words strengthens us. When the whirlwind of life comes to break us apart, the sweet doctrine of Jesus Christ soothes us.
In The Sweet Doctrine of Jesus Christ, author N. I. Zimudo gives an in-depth exploration of the life Christ lived in this world as written in the gospels. The sequence of events doesn’t offer an exact account of the order in which things occurred, but it emphasizes themes such as the stages of Christianity, the healing he provides for us by the words of his teachings, the truth that can be found in him, and how we can watch unto perfection.
The books in this series provide a strong foundation for those who have just joined the fold of Christianity, and it opens the eyes of understanding for those who have grown up in him. The Sweet Doctrine of Jesus Christ facilitates a thorough understanding of Christianity.

These are the words of God and of Jesus Christ, our master, which he commanded us before he took his journey to the right hand of the Father, that through them we might surmount our sins and the weaknesses that doth so easily beset us. We will therefore read them not with the exercise of our minds but with the desire of our hearts, and not just with our hearts but with all of our hearts, that we might not be found wanting at his appearing, when he will require from us his righteousness.
Introduction
Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
—1 Corinthians 10:11–12
An Overview of Christianity: Part 1
Using the lives of the children of Israel, God paints for us a clear picture of the path of our Christianity. Never before have we seen so clearly, knowing with every certainty what we ought to do and how we ought to live in this present world. For he is the light of our eyes, through whom we see, without any obscurity, that good and perfect way of living.
Now, the picture God paints for us of the journey of Christianity is one that is from the slavery and servitude of Egypt into the Promised Land of Canaan. Indeed, Israel went through all the things that they suffered not just for their sake but for ours also, that through them we might be instructed in the path of the walk of righteousness, as says the scripture.
Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. (1 Corinthians 10:11–12)
So then we see that God led Israel purposefully into the slavery of Egypt for our sake. He delivered them from their bondage by the hand of Moses also for our sake. He sustained them through the wilderness of training for our sake. And he led them triumphantly into the Promised Land for our sake. God did all these things for our sake so that we might be confident in the path of the journey of our Christianity.
What then was God’s message to us by leading the children of Israel into the bondage of Egypt? Beloved, it was simply to portray for us the slavery of our sins. The scriptures tell us that he who commits sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abides not in the house forever, but the Son abides ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:34–36). Paul tells us in another place that we should not let sin reign in our mortal bodies so that we obey it in the lusts thereof. Nor should we yield our members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but unto God, as those who are alive from the dead, and our members as instruments of righteousness. Sin shall therefore not have dominion over us for we are not under the law but under grace (Romans 6:12–14).
We see then that sin reigns over the bodies of men and has dominion over them just as a master does a slave. And because sin is the master, the slave cannot do those things that he ought but only the things that are compelled by his master. Indeed, we all, like the apostle Paul, have experienced the bondage of sins in our very own lives, in which we testified that the things that we did, we allowed not, and the things that we would, those we did not, but the things that we hated, those did we. So then it was no longer we who did it but sin that dwelt in us. For we knew that in us (that is in our flesh) dwelt no good thing, for to will was present with us, but how to perform that which was good we found not. For the good that we would, we did not, but the evil that we would not, that we did. And even though we delighted in the law of God after our inward man, we saw another law in our members warring against the law of our minds and bringing us into captivity to the law of sin that was in our members (Romans 7:15–23).
Alas, beloved, those who are born into the flesh cannot but sin. No matter how hard they try to do the things that they ought, they are guaranteed to fail. No matter how determined they are to fulfil their New Year’s resolutions, their lack of success is only a matter of time. No matter how much they discipline themselves to follow the laws of their own consciences, it will all be for naught. We humans are by nature sinful. We are by nature full of transgression. Behold, we drink iniquity as though it were water (Job 15:16). It is therefore this inability of us to live by the laws of our consciences, let alone the law of God, that is captured aptly for us in the slavery of Israel in Egypt.
And so, as Pharaoh ground down the children of Israel and kept them subjugated underneath his feet, so also were we kept slaves to our sins by our own pharaoh, the devil, who is the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience. For it was through his system of control (i.e., the world) that he ensured that we had our conversation in times past in the lust of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, so that we were by nature the children of wrath (Ephesians 2:2–3).
It is by “the world” that he kept us slaves to our sins. It is by “the world” that he kept us powerless in iniquity. As the pharaohs of Egypt designed a system of slavery to keep Israel shackled in their bonds, saying, “Come let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply and it come to pass that when there comes any war, they join unto our enemies,” so also did the devil keep us in slavery by that system that is called “the world,” of which it is also written, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust thereof, but he who does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:16–17).
So then the devil gave us all manner of nudity, sensuality, voluptuousness, and sexual attractiveness to lust after, whether in our televisions or in our neighborhood, so that by the lust of our flesh, we would be kept slaves to our sins. He gave us exquisite, elegant, and luxurious houses, cars, phones, and clothes to desire and chase after, so that by the lust of our eyes we might remain laborers to our iniquities. He gave us positions of power and authority to aspire to, whether they be of presidents, ministers, financiers, or those at the peak of various professions. He gave us these things to aspire unto, so that by t
