Introduction

You and I are on a life journey—a voyage—with God and with others. Every life voyage will experience sunny days, as well as stormy days. Every life voyage will include pain and loss along the way. Even saying yes to God’s invitation to travel His way will be costly.
In many ways, our God is a dangerous God; He doesn’t choose safety over all else. When I choose to follow Him, I find that oftentimes His way is the harder way, one that requires risk and release of things that are safe and familiar, but it’s the most fulfilling way. I long to keep God on the throne of my life, to have His purposes prevail above my own, the Enemy’s, and the world’s.
Each day, may you and I press ever more closely to our Heavenly Father so our hearts are filled with His power and provision—and we are prepared to say yes to the places He leads us. Let’s move beside Him, without fear, in the vessel He chooses for us. May we be at peace in our hearts, full of the certainty that He is bigger than any storm and He always stands steadfast at the helm.
Let’s trust Him in uncharted waters.
DAY 1
Into the Unknown
H ow often have you found yourself in a unique, completely new-to-you situation?
Perhaps you can recall your first day of kindergarten, or any one of your first days of school for a new year. Do you remember your first days of marriage, or your first day on a new job? Reminisce about the day you brought your firstborn baby home from the hospital. Consider your grief as you lived through the first days after losing your husband or another family member.
We have each had many experiences that were new to us—events we had not lived through before. Whether we were a first-time first grader, a first-time staff member, or a first-time grandmother, the experiences were uncharted waters to us.
To be in uncharted waters means to be in an unfamiliar situation, one that is completely new to you, with no knowledge of what might happen. By this definition, every single day of our lives could be considered uncharted waters—we have never lived this day before.
So, how should we approach each day, knowing that we don’t know what will come next?
We trust.
We trust the God who has already helped us to help us once again. We put our hope in the One who loves us—because we know His love is steadfast and will never end. The well-known worship song, “Oceans,” talks about the “great unknown” and describes how we can rest in His embrace because we are His. 1 Pause now to listen to this worshipful song.
NAVIGATING THE VOYAGE
Can you say you belong to God? Have you put your faith and trust in Jesus, who calms the waves? If you haven’t yet, you don’t have to fear the unknown. He will give you peace. Take a few minutes to talk to Him in prayer. Ask Him for mercy and hope to face the unknown in your life.
TRUTH FOR THE JOURNEY
The steadfast love of the L ORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The L ORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
LAMENTATIONS 3:22–24, ESV
DAY 2
Release My Grip
I have an adorable grandson, Greyson. (I have three adorable granddaughters as well!) He isn’t quite two years old and is as active as any toddler can possibly be.
