Foreword
Many years ago I began reading “The Upper Room” as a daily devotional. I soon found numerous Bible passages spoke to me, like a primer or a guide. When I am weak Paul tells me in Philippians 4:12b-13 ‘I have learned the secret, so anywhere, at any time, I am content, whether I am full or hungry, whether I have too much or to little. I have the strength to face all conditions by the power Christ gives me’. In Psalms 24:12-14 David asks ‘Do you want long life and happiness? Then keep from speaking evil and do good; strive for peace with all your heart’. I began categorizing passages like these and that is where this collection of verses comes from. Now, more than 20 years later the book has grown as I have and is still growing.
In God’s Love,
Nancy

Needing God
1)   Psalm 63:1-2 Oh God, you are my God and I long for you. My whole being desires you; like a dry worn out and waterless land, my soul is thirsty for you.
2)   Psalm 119:175-76 Give me life so I may praise you; may your instructions help me. I wander about like lost sheep; so come look for me; your servant, because I have not neglected our laws.
3)   Psalm 73:25 What else do I have in heaven but you? Since, I have you, what else could I want on earth?
4)   Isaiah 55:6-7 Turn to the Lord and pray to him, now that he is near. Let the wicked leave their way of life and change their way of thinking. Let them turn to the Lord, our God; he is merciful and quick to forgive.
5)   Psalm 27:4 I have asked the Lord for one thing; one thing only do I want: to live in the Lord’s house all my life, and marvel there at his goodness and ask for his guidance.
6)   Psalm 143:6 I life up my hands to you in prayer; like dry ground my soul is thirsty for you.
7)   Romans 8:15 For the Spirit God has given you does not make you slaves and cause you to be afraid; instead the Spirit makes you God’s children, and by the Spirit’s power we cry out to God “Father…”
8)   Romans 14:8-9 If we live, it is for the Lord we live and if we die, it is for the Lord we die. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For Christ died and rose to life in order to be the Lord of the living and dead.
9)   Matthew 9:12-13 Jesus heard them and answered, “People who are well do not need a doctor, but only those who are sick. Go and find out what is meant by the scripture that says: ‘It is kindness I want, not animal sacrifices.’ I have not come to call respectable people, but outcasts”.
10)    Psalms 51:1 Be merciful to me, O God, because of your constant love. Because of your great mercy wipe away all my sins.
11)    Matthew 4:4 But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Man cannot live on bread alone, but needs every word God speaks’”.
12)   Proverbs 2:9 If you will listen to me you will know what is right, just and fair. You will know what you should do.
13)   Jeremiah 6:16 The Lord said to his people, “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths and where the best road is. Walk in it and you will live in peace.”

How He Thinks Of Us Always
1)   Psalm 8:4 What is man that you think of him; mere man, that you care for him?
2)   Luke 12:6-7Aren’t four sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one sparrow is forgotten by God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So do not be afraid, you are worth much more than sparrows.
3)   John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world he send his only son; so everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life. For God didn’t send his only son into the world to be its judge but to be its savior.
4)   2 Corinthians 9:8-9 And God is able to give you more than you need, so you will always have all you need for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause… “He gives generously to the needy, his kindness lasts forever”.
5)   Isaiah 42:1 The Lord says, “Here is my servant, whom I strengthen–the one I have chose with whom I am pleased. I have filled him with my spirit and he will bring justice to every nation”.
6)   Luke 19:10 The Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.
7)   Matthew 28:20 Jesus said, “I am with you always”.
8)   Hebrews 13:5b For God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you”.
9)   Isaiah 49:16 Jerusalem, I can never forger you! I have written your name on the palms of my hands.
10)   Acts 17:26-28 From one man he created all races of mankind and made them live throughout the whole earth. He himself fixed beforehand the exact times, the limits of the places where they would live. He did this so they would look for him and perhaps find him as they felt around for him. Yet God is actually not far from anyone of us, as someone has said, ‘In him we live and move and exist’.
11)   John 16:33 I have told you this so you will have peace by being united to me. The world will make you suffer. But be brave! I have defeated the world.
12)   John 13:15 I have set an example for you, so you will do exactly as I have done for you.
13)   Hebrews 10:20 He opened for us a new way, a living way, thru the curtain–that is thru his own body.
14)   1 John 2:20 But you have had the Holy Spirit poured out on you by Christ, and so all of you know the truth.
15)   Joshua 1:9 Remember I have commanded you to be determined and confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, and with you wherever you go.
16)   Isaiah 43:1b …the Lord who created you says, “Do not be afraid–I will save you. I have called you by name you are mine.
17)   Isaiah 2:3 … and their people will say, “Let us go up the hill of the Lord, to the temple of Israel’s God. He will teach us what he wants us to do; we will walk in the path he has chosen.
18)   James 1:16-18 Do not be deceived, my dear brothers! Every good gift and every perfect present comes from heaven; it comes down from God, the creator of the heavenly lights who does not change or cause darkness by turning. By his own will he brought us into being thru the word of truth, so we should have first place among all his creatures.
19)   John 14:18 “When I go, you will not be left all alone; I will come back to you.
20)   John 14: 16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever.
21)   Genesis 50:20 You plotted evil against me but God turned it into good in order to preserve the lives of many people who are alive today because of what happened.
22)   John 5:17 Jesus answered them, “My Father is always working, and I too must work.”
23)   Isaiah 44:21-22 The Lord says, “Israel, remember this; remember you are my servant. I created you to be my servant and I will never forget you. I have swept your sins away like a cloud. Come back to me; I am the one who saves you”.
24)   Psalm 40:5 You have done many things for us, O Lord our God; there is no one like you! You have made many wonderful plans for us. I could never speak of them all–their number is so great.
25)   Colossians 2:5 For even though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, and I am glad as I see the resolute firmness with which you stand together in your faith in Christ.
26)   Galatians 4:4-7 But when the right time finally came, God sent his own son. He came as the son of a human mother and lived under the Jewish Law. To redeem those who were under the Law, so we might become God’s sons. To show you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who cries out, “Father, my Father.” So then you are no longer a slave but a son. And since you are his son, God will give you all he has for his sons.
