Description

In the Melting Pot pulls the covers off the delusions that most people accept as truth, examining questions that revolve around politics, race, and class.
As I began to write what originally started out to be a family orientated portrayal (of which much still is), race and the influence of politics and religion became increasingly important factors to acknowledge. They are inextricably bound together in the consciousness of America. Decisions made by elected and unelected officials affect virtually every aspect of our lives - whether we know it or not. Where buildings are built, where roads are constructed, where services are and are not provided, how the administration of justice is meted out, the list goes on. These decisions are ultimately made by the political class. The attitudes of those holding office will affect how these resources are allocated. If there is a price to be paid by those decisions it’s felt by those with the least political and financial clout.
The book is broken up into many different segments all of which play a part in either illuminating particular themes mentioned above, sharing family insights, and of high proirity to the writer, rising in the mind of the reader the desire to question the previously unquestioned and if motivated challenge those previously unquestioned assumptions. I hope the reader finds this book as interesting to read as I found it to write.

Preface
From an early age I started my journey seeking answers. At the time I was unaware this was what I was doing. I also didn’t know what I was trying to find. This unknown drive pushed me to explore outside the boundaries of what society had presented me. I was an explorer then, and I still am today. I was determined not to accept the status quo without question. Religious, political, and historical orthodoxy were on the chopping block.
My first exploration outside the boundaries of accepted tradition was my acceptance in 1959 of the fiercely controversial teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Nation of Islam. I was twelve years old at the time. Muhammad’s teaching rejected the history of Black people as portrayed in public school history books and by academics of that time. They depicted Blacks as unintelligent and inferior to Whites. Muhammad taught a message that honored Black people. For me, it was irresistible.
In my late teens I began to practice and study the physical and meditative science of Yoga, an East Indian tradition.
At thirty years of age I married a wonderful woman. A year or two after our marriage, I converted to Christianity, which was the faith my wife embraced. In addition to conversion, I became passionate about politics from a Conservative Christian perspective. We raised our five children in the Christian faith. Yoga the teachings from the Nation and Christianity all have been influencing factor in my life.
Today, I no longer practice religion in a traditional sense; instead, I ackn
