To thank him for all benefits,He is our God, our Lord and King,To whom I in mine anger swore, alway distributing:and we his people are:that they should not be bless'd, Wherefore to him right joyfullyHis flock and sheep of his pasture,Nor see my joy celestial, in Psalms now let us sing.on whom he taketh care.not enter in my rest. And that because that God aloneToday if ye will hear his voice, is Lord magnificent:yet harden not your heart: GloriaPatri And eke about all other GodsAs in the bitter murmuring,All laud and praise be to the Lord a King omnipotent.when ye were in desert.O that of might art most: To God the Father and the Son, His people doth not he forsakeWhich thing was of their negligenceand to the holy Ghost. at any time or tide:committed in their timeAs it in the beginning was, And in his hand are all the coastsOf trouble in the Wildernes, for ever heretofore: of all the world so wide.a great andgrievious crime. And is now at this present time, And with his loving countenanceWhereas your fathers tempted me,and shall be evermore. he longeth every where:and tried me every way: And doth behold the tops of allThey proved me, and saw my works, the mountains far and near.what I could do or say.
The sea and all that is therein are his, for he them made: and eke his hands have fashioned the earth, which doth not fade. O come therefore and worship him, and down before him fall: And let us weep before the Lord, the which hath made us all.
Critical notes: Cantus bar 2/note 3 is G in the original; Text somewhat modernised.
These forty years I have been griev'd, with all this generation: And evermore I sais they erred in their imagination. Wherewith their hearts were sore combered long time and many days: Wherefore I know assuredly they have not known my ways.
