La NACE Rev. 1 è una nuova classificazione delle attività a quattro cifre redatta nel 1990. Si tratta di una revisione della
«Nomenclatura generale delle attività economiche nelle Comunità europee», nota con l'acronimo NACE e pubblicata
originariamente da Eurostat nel 1970.
Grandi cambiamenti sono avvenuti sia nella natura sia nel contesto dell'attività economica durante gli ultimi 25 anni e la
NACE Rev. 1 cerca di tenerne conto.
La versione 1970 della NACE non aveva una base giuridica, mentre la NACE Rev. 1 forma oggetto di legislazione a livello di
Unione europea' Tale legislazione impone l'utilizzo uniforme della nuova classificazione in tutti gli Stati membri. La
NACE Rev. 1 non è semplicemente un formato con cui trasmettere dati statistici ad Eurostat. In realtà, la nuova classificazione offre
un quadro di tutte le classificazioni delle attività nazionali nell'Unione europea. La classificazione è stata adottata da un gran
numero di altri Stati europei compresa la maggior parte dei paesi dell'EFTA ed un numero considerevole di paesi dell'Europa
centrale ed orientale. La NACE Rev. 1 va quindi considerata come parte di un linguaggio statistico comune elaborato, il cui scopo
