Road freight transport by type of goods - 2006

Highlights

In 2006, road transport in the EU-27, Norway and

Liechtenstein carried over 17 billion tonnes,

performing some 1900 billion tonne-kilometres

(tkm).

•

Building materials account for just under a half

of the weight of all goods carried.

•

Machinery, transport equipment and other

manufactured products account for over a third

of tkm.

•

Average distance travelled by

Transport of dangerous goods continues to

grow, reaching 78 billion tkm in 2005 for the

EU-25 and Norway.
